    Why people try EMS

One-to-one EMS works all your main muscle groups at once, in a 20-minute session at our Belgravia studio or at your home.

    20 minutes, full body

A complete full-body workout in the time it takes to have lunch. EMS works all your main muscle groups at the same time.

    Your dedicated trainer

Every session is one-on-one with your personal trainer. They know your body, your goals, and how to push you just the right amount.

    Studio or at your door

Train at our private Belgravia studio or have your trainer come to you. Same technology, same expertise: you choose where.

    What the research says

Electrical muscle stimulation has been used in physiotherapy and elite sport for over 50 years. Whole-body EMS, which works all your main muscle groups at once, is newer, and has now been tested in controlled trials. Here is what they found, and who took part.

    897

adults across 16 trials: on average, EMS increased muscle mass and strength more than control groups did

Kemmler et al., 202116 trials, 897 adults who were not athletes

    36%

stronger squat after 10 weeks of one 20-minute session a week

Grgic et al., 202520 sedentary women aged around 20, 10 weeks

    ~30%

average drop in back pain after 12 weeks of EMS once a week, similar to conventional back exercise

Micke et al., 2021240 adults aged 40 to 70 with long-standing lower-back pain, 12 weeks

Results vary from person to person. The back-pain and knee studies were run by university researchers with trained instructors; EMS with us is personal training, not treatment. Each link opens the published paper.

    Three quick questions

    Is EMS right for you?

Answer three questions and we’ll tell you straight away whether an introduction session fits you.

    Common Questions

For muscle and strength, the trials say yes, on average. A review of 16 trials with 897 adults found whole-body EMS built more muscle and strength than control groups did, and in a small 10-week study of sedentary young women, one 20-minute session a week gave similar strength gains to two hour-long gym sessions. Electrical muscle stimulation has been used in physiotherapy and elite sport for over 50 years; whole-body EMS, which works all your main muscle groups at once, is newer.

No. You'll feel the muscles contracting. It's an unusual sensation at first, but your trainer adjusts the intensity to your comfort level. Most clients describe it as a deep, buzzing pulse.

The training is identical: same equipment, same trainers, same 20-minute workout. Studio sessions are at our Belgravia location (9 Kinnerton Street). At-home sessions mean your trainer brings everything to your door, anywhere in Zone 1 and most of Zone 2.

Studio introduction sessions are £60, then £115 per session, or less in packs. At-home sessions are £195 for a single, or £110 per session with a 40-pack. Memberships start from £240 a month.

For the studio: just yourself. We provide the EMS suit and a base layer. At home: about 3 by 3 metres of floor space. Your trainer brings everything else.

Every session is one-to-one with a trainer, and we go through your health history before you start. Your first session is deliberately gentler while your muscles get used to EMS. It is not suitable for everyone: the last question below lists who should not do it.

EMS isn’t suitable during pregnancy; with a pacemaker or other electronic implant; with epilepsy or another neurological condition, heart rhythm problems, narrowed or hardened arteries, untreated high blood pressure, a bleeding disorder, or a hernia in the abdomen or groin; within six months of a stent or bypass; soon after surgery in the area being trained; while you are unwell or have an infection; or after alcohol or drugs. With diabetes, cancer, heart or kidney disease, new back pain that hasn’t been diagnosed, nerve pain or a slipped disc, or an implant such as a joint replacement, you need your doctor’s approval first. We go through your health history before your first session, and if you’re unsure, check with your GP.
